Beginners Farm Setup: Clearing Ghost Tentacles & Cleansing Balm

When you first arrive at the Farm, every tile of your fields is choked by Ghost Tentacles. Before you can till fallow soil with the Basic Gardening Hoe or water planted seeds with the Watering Can, you must clear each tile using Cleansing Balm.

Core Planting, Growth & Midnight Rules

1. Tilling, Fertilizing & Watering Order: Clear the Ghost Tentacle with Cleansing Balm, till the fallow tile with your Gardening Hoe, apply fertilizer (optional), plant the seed, and then water the tile with your Watering Can. A tile cannot be watered before a seed is planted.
2. Grow Time = Nights Watered: Crop grow times count the number of nights required, excluding the planting day. For example, a 4-night crop (Wheat Seed or Radish Seed) planted on Day 1 will be ready to harvest on Day 5.
3. Unwatered Crops Pause Instead of Dying: Crops must be watered daily for maximum growth speed. If you skip watering on a given day, the crop does not wither, but it will not advance growth that night. However, when the season changes after the 28th day, crops that do not belong to the new season will wither.
4. Farming Skill Scaling: Every level in your Farming skill adds +1% to crop growth speed.

Big Crop Plot Guide: Spider Plant Seed & Nursery Big Crops

One of the most searched farming mechanics in Welcome to Elderfield is how to plant and profit from Spider Plant Seeds. Unlike Wheat or Radishes, Big Crops cannot be planted in regular soil tiles. You must plant them in the dedicated Big Crop Plots located directly west of the Farmhouse.

To scale your farm without spending all day watering or losing crops to Crows, combine Witching Mortar rain rituals with Workbench scarecrows and effigies:

• Automatic Watering (Ritual Brazier + Witching Mortar): Place a Lesser Offering of Rain (4 days), Medium Offering of Rain (8 days), or Greater Offering of Rain (16 days) into a Ritual Brazier to automatically water all crops in range.
• Crow Protection (Max 1 Scarecrow per Field): Ragged Scarecrow (20% crow reduction, Old Man Crawford), Basic Scarecrow (40%), Jack o’ Scarecrow (60%), Tortured Scarecrow (80%), and Dripping Scarecrow (100% crow immunity).

Complete Fishing Contest Guide (7th & 21st at Old Woods Campsite)

After you complete Adrian’s Tree Branch Cleanup task by defeating the Ancient Tree deep inside The Old Woods, the Fishing Contest unlocks on every 7th and 21st of the season until 6PM (18:00) at the Old Woods Campsite.

Contest Rules & Placement Rewards

Your contest score is based solely on the single highest-point fish you catch, not the total number of fish caught. Contestants roll random target scores between 130 and 200 points, meaning a top-quality Ancient Manta (210 pts), Aetherfin (210 pts), or Mud Serpent (200 pts) guarantees 1st Place:

• 1st Place Reward: Perfect Opal x1 (used in Gatis, Delvek, and Daeus God Forge recipes or gifted to Sam and Celeste; see our Romance, Akira & Villager Gift Guide), Large Coin Box x2, Greater Deep Crystal x1, and Fishing Trophy (first win) or Mounted Fish (subsequent wins).
• 2nd Place Reward: Mounted Fish, Large Coin Box, Deep Crystal, and Cleansing Balm x2 (first time only).
• 3rd Place Reward: Medium Coin Pouch, Rain Gem, and Extra Pouch.
